What we believe

The visual language of tools made with intention. Smoothgrain finds beauty where raw material meets measured control - the path of the blade, the clean edge left behind, the gap that proves something deliberate happened. Every form is the residue of careful work, never decoration applied after the fact. The aesthetic emerges from process, not ornament.

Every form is the residue of careful work, not decoration applied after the fact. The shapes in our interfaces exist because they had to. If we could remove them and still tell the truth, we would have.
Few tools, done well.

Better a small catalogue of well-made things than a long one of competent ones. We ship software the way a joiner builds a chair: one well-made thing at a time, then the next. The roadmap is short on purpose.
Negative space is craft.

Every mark must justify its existence against the silence of empty space. The blank regions in our work are not emptiness. They are the evidence that something was left out on purpose.
Process before ornament.

The aesthetic emerges from how the work is made, not how it's decorated. Monochrome is a discipline, not a limitation - the same discipline a master joiner exercises working with a single species of wood.
Different tools, same hand.

Our apps don't share a market. They share a way of being made. A program manager will never install our web editor; a web developer will never open our household ledger. That's fine. What unites them is the care, not the category.

Our mark carries the visual DNA of woodworking without being illustrative: the geometry of grain, the precision of a cut, the satisfying order of parallel lines. Abstract enough to represent a technology company, specific enough to feel like it could only belong to Smoothgrain.
